Description

Grizzly Tower is the last wooden lookout structure of its era still standing in Alberta, and probably all of Canada. The guyed 24 tamarack pole tower with 7’ x 7’ wooden cab plus a log ground house was constructed by the federal Canadian Forest Service in 1922 and staffed by Provincial Forest Rangers. The tower was abandoned in 1929 when a replacement lookout was established at a better location. The site was inspected in May, 1996 and found suitable for restoration, which will be accomplished in cooperation with the Alberta Chapter of the Forest Fire Lookout Association (FFLA)
