The Perry Lakes Tower was originally called the Rumley Lookout in Sumter County, erected by the CCC in late 1930s. In 2005 students from Judson College and the Auburn University Rural Studio, with help from AFC and Perry County, moved and restored the lookout to the its current home at Perry Lakes Park. The tower was reconstructed without the 7'x7' cab for the open-sky canopy effect for bird-watching. The 100' Aermotor MC-39 is now billed as the "tallest bird viewing tower in the United States."
