Description
Also known as East Lake Tower, Wharton Lookout Tower is the only lookout in Alabama with a rooftop observation platform. This was an option forAermotor 7'x7' cabs, and is found in some mid-Atlantic states, but very unusual in the south. It is on this tower because the FM once had an aircraft beacon on the roof. Located in the City of Birmingham's Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, this is a 100' MC-39 Aermotor built by the CCC in 1941.
