Description

Sugarloaf Mountain Lookout was built by the CCC in 1935 on the Chiricahua National Monument, the last stronghold of Cochise. The 14’x14 ground house with stone base and permanent overhang roof is one of two of this NPS design known. The other was Millers Head Lookout in Shenahdoah National Park, VA which was removed in the 1980s. Sugarloaf is linked with Barfoot Lookout (NHLR US#218, AZ#12) for coverage of the Monument as well as adjacent Coronado National Forest.
