Description
Allen Lookout was originally built as an air traffic control tower at Salinas Naval Air Station. It was moved to this location in 1966 by inmate labor. The tower was closed in 1981. It replaced a 1941 wooden lookout, remnants of which remain as a utility building on the site.
The tower features an open steel X-braced tower. It is 22' 7" by 22' 7" at its base an 51" 6" high. The 225-square foot metal frame cab has a pyramidal hip roof. The tower is now surrounded by heavy foliage on all sides.
