Description

The CL metal 14' x 14' cab with corrugated flat roof may not be the most attractive lookout in the woods, but the 1950s design has proven to be durable. When the Sequoia National Forest replaced the Bald Mountain Lookout in 1954, materials for the cab and the 40' Aermotor tower were hauled in by the mule train. The road did not reach the 9430' mountain for another decade. Historically, a "lightning rod," it is still in active service, and often used to relay fire traffic for the BLM and the Inyo National Forest.
