Located in the heart of the Eldorado National Forest, Big Hill Lookout is a center of fire control operations. The original 14’x14’ lookout of 1935 on a 23’ tower was burned by the disastrous Cleveland Fire of 1992. The current 14’x14’ cab with catwalk was built in 1993 along with an attractive groundhouse residence. There is also a seasonal helicopter air attack base on the site. The lookout and base are both active in fire season.
