Snag Hill was constructed in 1994 by the Lassen Gold Mine Company for Cal Fire to replace the Hayden Hill Lookout 9 miles northeast of the current site. The Hayden Hill site had to make way for a new mining project.
Snag Hill is staffed when severe weather was predicted as of 2015.
The structure and it's spiral staircase are a unique design in the Cal Fire inventory.
