Description

Constructed in 1938, South Mount Hawkins Lookout is a C3 14’ x 14’ wooden cab with shutter outriggers, on top of a 30’ treated timber tower. The lookout was refurbished and reopened by volunteers with the Angeles National Forest Fire Lookout Association in September 1999.

Tragically, this tower was destroyed by fire during the “Curve Fire” on September 1st, 2002.

An effort was underway to rebuild the South Mt. Hawkins tower. However, due to the poor (and worsening) condition of the road to the lookout the direction of the project has changed.
