Description
Located on Wales Ridge (the north-south backbone of Florida) close to Archbold Biological Station, the Archbold Fire Tower overlooks the headwaters of the Everglades. The 100' Aermotor LS-40 has 15 landings. It is standing in good shape and features an air conditioner for the comfort of its users. It was last regularly staffed in 1999.
The tower is enclosed by a security fence. A large emergency generator sits at its base and many radio aerials are mounted to the tower.
