Description

This early fire tower is located in extreme northern Georgia, less than five miles from the Tennessee state line.

According to the Georgia Forestry Commission, this tower was originally staffed by Mrs. Crow, whose family owned the land where the tower is located. Sometime after her death, and the end of the Georgia Forestry Commission's lease of the land, the tower was scheduled for removal. Because of sentimental ties and proximity to the family home, Mrs. Crow's son purchased the tower from the state around 2009. As of 2019, the tower is now owned by his widow.

This tower and its site are not open to the public.

Comments: Seeing this tower listed on the registry, and realizing it was only about 35 minutes from where I was visiting a family membber, I excitedly drove to find it. Unfortunately the road was gated with a private gate. This registry says that the tower is administered by the Georgia Forestry Commision, so I gave them a call and managed to reach someone with knowledge of this specific tower. Apparently this page is *very* outdated. The tower was privately purchased approx 10 years ago, and is no longer maintained for safety; nor accessible to the public. I was able to learn some cool history - but unable to climb the tower.
