Originally known as the Kathleen Fire Tower, this 110-foot tower was built circa 1950 to provide fire protection to the vast woodlands in central Georgia around the Oaky Woods and Ocmulgee Wildlife Management Areas. The tower sits on land purchased by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in 2010, at which time the tower was renamed as the Oaky Woods Fire Tower The tower has been unmanned since the 1980s but houses radio equipment for local government.
