Description

Sundance Lookout first went into service as a tent camp with an alidade on the rock pile in 1928. Seven years later the first permanent structure, an L-4 hip-roofed cab on a 20’ log tower in 1935. That lookout somehow survived the firestorm of the Sundance fire in 1967, but the Idaho Department of Lands replaced it in 1981 with an R-6 flattop cab with catwalk on a 20’ timber tower. A volunteer program is currently used to staff Sundance Lookout.
