Description
Tripod Peak first hosted a lookout in 1921. A California Region 5 Plan 4A cabin was constructed on a 6 foot open timber tower. This structure was replace by an R1/L-4 cabin cabin on a short open, timber tower. A concrete base was added in 1950.
The current Region 6 Plan Flat Cab was constructed in 1977.
The lookout is staffed during the fire season by the Southern Idaho Timber Protection Association.
