According to Dean Alger's book Indiana's Historic Fire Towers

         The Mason Ridge Fire Tower was erected in the forest in 1930 and rebuilt later by the Young Hoosiers Conservation Corp (YHCC) in 2009 and 2010. Prior to this renovation the fire tower had been condemned. The YUCC is a state funded program providing young men and women. from low income families, with employment on state projects, at state-owned properties. It took YHCC crews approximately 10 months of total work, over two seasons, to complete this work. During this time, the YHCC removed two of the tower's three sections. The upper cabin, and a 50-foot-tall central section of the tower were taken off and placed on the ground for restoration. The lower section of the tower was restored in-place. After the three sections were individually rebuilt, the tower was re-erected. Completed work included replacing the wooden steps on the stairways, and safety fencing along the stairways and landings; installing a new white oak ceiling and floor in the cabin; and refabricating and replacing the cabin windows. While the fire tower was being manufactured, the shipping location, in this case a nearby farm, was stenciled on the steel tower to help prevent it from being lost during transportation. This stencil was found during the tower restoration work.
