Back at the turn of the 20th Century mountain hotels were fashionable When the Wauchusett Summit House was built an observation room was placed on the top floor to give guests a commanding view of the countryside. When the State of Massachusetts established a fire watch program in 1911 they staffed the room until the Summit House burned down in 1965. The present 70’ steel Princeton Fire Tower with 10’x10’ cab was built on the site in 1966 and continues in active service. It will be listed on the National Lookout Register until it reaches 50 years of age.
