Lookout Details
Description
The metal fire towers with seemingly oversized wooden cabs “perched” on top are unique to Maine and have been around a long time. The guyed 60’ tower with 8’x 8’ cab on Ross Mountain was first erected in 1914 at another location and has been moved twice. It came to its present site in the 1940s. No longer in active use, it is maintained by the Maine Forest Service for emergency detection.
