The Garwood Lookout was erected in 1950 on a small site (approx. 40 acres) owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Revisions were made to the tower in 1969-70. The tower is a metal structure that is 100 feet in height. Overall, it was in pretty good shape as of March 13, 2025. The tower can be climbed, though signage says it must done "at your own risk" and "no more than five people on the tower at one time."
As of 2025, the cab in inaccessible. The area is also under video camera surveillance.
