Description
The current Baptiste Lookout was built in 1964 on a ridge west of Mt. Baptiste as a replacement for a 1928 30' tower. It was staffed annually until 1971 with minimal maintenance thereafter. In 2005 due to vandalism and liability concerns, the lower stairs were removed.
In 2010 the USFS conducted a site assessment with rehabilitation work starting in 2011; expected to be complete in the fall of 2013. Annual volunteer staffing started in 2012.
