Description

The first station at Eddy Mountain Lookout on the Lolo National Forest was a standard gable-roof L-4 ground house built in 1931. The present R-6 flattop, 15’x15’ with catwalk on a 10’ concrete base was constructed in 1982 and is one of the newest lookout structures in the region. Eddy Peak (and the town of Eddy, Montana) was named after Richard Eddy, one of the owners of the Eddy-Hammond Company, later known as the Missoula Mercantile Company, in 1885. Eddy Peak has been a primary lookout for the district since the 1930's and is still staffed every season.
