The North Carolina Forest Service constructed Bearwallow Mountain Lookout in 1934. The 47’ Aermotor tower with 7’x7’ metal cab stands on the Eastern Continental Divide and is a popular hiking destination with views of Hickory Nut Gorge. Restoration of the lookout is planned for 2011-2012.
