Description
The 53’ stone Wayah Bald Lookout on the Nantahala National Forest was constructed by the CCC in 1937. Faulty mortar ended its use as a fire lookout in only 8 years. In 1947 the cab was removed, and the stone tower restored as a popular observation site on the Appalachian Trail.
