Description

The second southern-most active lookout in the state, Federal Hill went into service in 1911 with a 20' treetop platform and used intermittently until 1918. In 1929 the present steel tower with wood cab was built. Damaged in the 1938 hurricane, the tower was repaired and possibly raised. It was raised again during the 1980s and is in service.

Comments: The tower looks pretty nice- though there are some issues with it's exterior that are visible if you look closely. First of all, one of the windows in the cab has been blown in, leaving the cab exposed to the elements. The cab doesn't have shutters. Also, the outhouse has been tipped over, and part of the covering of the watchman's cabin roof has blown away. Other than that, the tower is beautiful.
