Description

The Red Hill Tower was constructed by the State of New Hampshire in 1927 as a replacement for the Mt. Israel Lookout. The original 27’ metal tower with 10’x10’ wooden cab was raised to 55’ in 1972 and an observation platform added for visitors. Closed by the state in 1981, the tower is now staffed by the Town of Moultonborough Fire Dept. on land owned by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, and is now the only active NH tower not owned by the state.

Condition

Needs paint? Yes

Condition of wood OK? No Response
Stairs OK? No Response
Glass intact? Yes
Good condition? No Response
Comments: The tower is unique looking, though visually unappealing. The wood on every landing is rotting and not properly secured, and the entire tower csn be shaken just by jostling the stairway. The boards moved under my feet, and there were large gaps between some of them.
