During the late summer of 1959 construction was begun on Osborne Lookout, the fourth on the Jicarilla Reservation. Located on Archuleta Mesa, the unique ground house with cupola was designed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The modern structure is both functional and attractive to the site. Completed and staffed in 1960, the new lookout had an important role that year as fires burned over 1,000 acres on and near the reservation.
