Description

The 35-foot steel fire tower on Black Mountain was erected in 1918 for fire spotting purposes. It remained in use until 1988 when it was officially closed. At that time additional reinforcement was made to the fire tower to add a 39' foot extension for state police communications, making the modified tower a total of 80-feet tall. The fire tower is currently closed to the public. There is a modular building at its base, surrounded by fencing.
