Lookout Details
Description
Bolan Mountain Lookout on the Siskiyou National Forest just north of the California line has a long history as a fire detection and aircraft-warning site. In 1917 a cupola cabin was constructed on a log crib base. This was replaced in 1953 with a L-4, hip roof 14’x14’ cab on a 15’ wood tower. The legs were later removed at the cab placed on a low stone base. The site was recently restored with an expanded catwalk including a deck to one side. Now on emergency status, it is in the lookout rental program.
