Description
The Oregon State Forest Department’s Chase Mountain Lookout is either one-of-a-kind, or at least unusual. The 21’ metal tower, with a 12’x12’ metal cab with catwalk was constructed in 1951 by Holland Sheet Metal Co., replacing a 10’x10’ ground house established on the site in 1928 and moved to Hambelton Butte in 1949. The stair entrance is inside the cab rather than on the catwalk. In active service, much of what this lookout sees is in California.
