Description

With US designation #333, it is appropriate that Oregon's Dutchman Butte Lookout would be a three-legged tower! Located in the big timber country of Douglas County between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains, the site first had a 12' wooden live-in tower in 1936. The 15' guyed three legged steel tower was obtained from the U.S. Air Force and erected in 1970. The tower was located on Fairview Peak as part of a Radar site. It was dismantled and moved by a DFPA crew and a portion of it was used in the construction of the lookout. It has an Oregon Department of Forestry 14' x 14' flattop live-in cab with catwalk and is staffed by the Douglas FPA.
