The first lookout at East Butte on the Deschutes National Forest was a L-4 on a 30' wooden tower. When the Forest Service replaced the structure in 1995, they built a new vintage model L-4 gable roof cab on a 20' wooden tower. Although a faithful reproduction and still in active service, the structure will be listed on the National Lookout Register until it becomes 50 years old. There is a historic restored garage on the site.
