Description

One of the last and best of its kind, Frazier Point Lookout is a classic L-6 wooden cab with catwalk on a 100’ guyed treated timber tower. The Malheur National Forest station, including a ground house living quarters, was constructed in 1940.

As of July 2019, an inspection notice attached to the tower indicates it has been condemned due to major deficiencies. The access stairs are boarded over.

Needs paint? Yes
Shutters OK? No
Condition of wood OK? Yes
Stairs OK? No
Glass intact? No
Good condition? No
Comments: This lookout has seen better days. It was hard to tell from the ground if any of the windows were still intact. Most/some of the shutters were on the ground or broken. Some stairs were cracked down the middle as well. The living quarters are wood rat infested and someone had thrown a rock through one of the windows leaving it exposed to the elements.

Electronics and Enroachments

Are electronic sites enroaching on tower? No
Other enroachments? Boards have been added to the stairs to block visitors from climbing the tower.

Comments? Another lookout that is easily accessed by most vehicles. There is no gates to this lookout and the spur access road NF-849 is in good condition up until a few rocky spots within the last half of a mile. There is no sign posted on the major NF-16 road but there are signs along NF-1630 at some of the major junctions and the junction with NF-849.

Comments: This once beautiful historic lookout has not been maintained for several years. the once beautiful guest house has broken windows and been vandalized and animal droppings inside. It is not beyond saving if something is done soon but won't last many more winters in this current condition.
