Description
The lookout is generally referred to as 'Mackey Butte Lookout' in contemporary media reports. Period photos show signage stating 'Norcross Forest Guard Station'.
A camp was established in 1925. A residence cabin and garage were built along with an exposed fire-finder stand were completed in 1935. The fire-finder was enclosed in 6x6 ground lookout house in 1940.
The station was abandoned in the 1950's and as of 2019, is still a standing ruin.
