Lookout Details
Description
One of the grandest lookouts in Oregon, if not the U.S., The Watchman is located at the edge of the Crater Lake caldera overlooking the lake itself. The imposing two-story stone structure was built by crews under the supervision of the U.S. National Park Service in 1931 and was completed in the early part of the fire season in 1932. Reached by a short hike from the west rim overlook, it is possibly the most visited lookout in Oregon (Lava Butte may claim that title). Carefully restored in 1999, the lookout is in service.
