Knobs Fire Tower was built in 1921 to oversee the northern unit of the Moshannon State Forest by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry which still maintains it. The 60’ steel tower with metal 7’ x 7’ cab has an adjacent cabin and also has a residence cabin built in 1933. The tower was refurbished in 2004 by the Bureau of Forestry with new steps and interior. It is one of three of the original towers that are still standing in Dist. 9 and is active during fire season.
