Description

Honey Hill Lookout, constructed in the 1930s, is the oldest remaining tower in one location on the Francis Marion National Forest and was one of several lookout stations used in the comprehensive fixed-point fire detection of the earlier years of the Forest Service. The LS-40 100’ Aermotor tower with 7’ x 7’ metal cab and hip roof was used by the U.S. Forest Service until 1989. The South Carolina Forestry Commission staffed it until October 1993. Located within a Francis Marion National Forest Picnic area, it is maintained on standby status.
