Description
Located on the Wyoming-South Dakota state line, on the Black Hills National Forest, Elk Mountain Lookout remains active and reports an average of eight to twelve fires a year. The 67.5' steel tower, with 7'x7' cab, along with a 32'x22' log cabin living quarters, was constructed by the CCC in 1941. The log cabin burned down during the Elk Mountain Fire in the late 90s.
