Description

The Flat Woods Fire Tower is located in Wayne County, west of Columbia and just State Route 13. It is a 100’ structure with diagonal stairs and still used by the Tennessee Division of Forestry as a radio repeater site.

Comments: 100' diagonal stairs, steel tower. Bottom 1 and 1/2 flights of stairs removed to prevent climbing. Tower has been hand-painted in the past several years. This tower is right off Hwy 13. There are Do Not Trespass signs, and a more modern living structure on site (subsequently seen similar home at other tower sites). Home does not appear to have been lived in over the past year or two. There is a small TN Forestry building (locked) on site. Wiring leading to tower is from inside of building.

This site would be a great opportunity for cooperation with TN Dept of Forestry. With volunteer support, home could be a possible good rental location. Tower is not far from Buffalo River recreation opportunities (rafting).
