Comments: | Found this site by accident as I was traveling from Flatwood to Summertown towers. This site is right along Hwy and is an active TN Department of Forestry site. The tower is a 60' diagonal stairs/steel tower, located on State Property. Wood on stairs/landings is weathered, but sturdy. Cab was open and a firefinder table and firefinder base were still in cab. Most towers that still have this equipment have been the same. The firefinder bases that I've seen are not the Osborne finder type, but basically a round metal disk with a compass rose painted on it. I believe that the whole purpose of these finders is to get a fix using triangulation from other towers. |
Electronics and Enroachments |
|
Are electronic sites enroaching on tower? | Yes |
Comments: | There is one communications antenna on the site. |
Other enroachments? | There is a house (appears to be lived in) and several maintenance sheds and facilities on this site. A large flatbed truck/bulldozer unit was sitting next to the buildings, along with several state pickup trucks. However, no one seemed to be around, so I couldn't get more information about this tower, or other sites. |
