Description

With the addition of Ute Mountain Lookout in the Ashley National Forest, Utah becomes the 44th state to be represented in the NHLR. The 32’ timber tower with 14’x 14’ L-4 cab and catwalk was constructed by the Sheep Creek Canyon CCC camp in 1937 and staffed until 1968. It was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and restored by the USFS and a group of organizations in 1986. One of only two lookouts left in Utah, it is staffed by volunteers.

According to a 2019 report, the tower and cab interior and exterior are in good condition and the tower was staffed by a volunteer for the last three seasons.
