Description

Cove Mountain is an 83 feet tall steel tower located in Wythe County, VA. It has a 14x14 cab. It is near Max Meadows, in the Miller's Creek area.

Tower is not in use. Access to the tower is by permission of the landowner only.

Comments: Tower has not been used in many decades. Very rural, isolated tower. No access road. Cab floor is wood, and I'm leery of it. The joists and planks look good from below, but there is some rotting of the wood at the doorway. Tower is at least 60' tall, but I did not determine the exact height. Most glass broken, ceiling wood and insulation has fallen down in places and the debris is on the floor. Built sometime before 1945, materials carried to the top of the mountain by convicts, according to an 82 year old local that was born within site of this tower, and remembered its construction. Unused for at least 40 years. Steel structure, stairs, rails all seem to be in very good condition.
