Description

Completed on August 31, 1939 by the Virginia Department of Forestry, this 90' Aermotor tower sits on the Dickenson/Russell County line. It is atop the Clinch Mountain range.

Comments: Wood is pretty good on steps, bottom steps removed. Most glass intact. Some rust, but generally in good condition. Concrete piers in good shape.

Are electronic sites enroaching on tower? No
Comments: Tower is in very good shape considering age. Concrete base where stairs used to come to the ground have the date 8/31/49. Elevation is painted on the tower at 3100 Ft. Outside toilet is also still there.
Other enroachments? Tower does have one radio at the bottom with an antenna mounted about 2/3 of the way up.

Not sure about volunteering opportunity. I think I read somewhere that this tower was to be sold and taken down, but I am not sure. Would be a good tower to restore. It is right beside a good paved road with very easy access.
