Description

Buck Mountain Lookout was developed in 1919 by the state as a crow's nest and log cabin. In 1934 a 20' pole L-4 tower was built, and it was replaced in 1961 with the present 14' x 14' flat-gable Washington Department of Natural Resources live-in cab with catwalk on a 20' timber tower. It is maintained by the DNR for emergency use.

Comments: Lookout has boards that were replaced due to fire damage in 2015. Lookout is a sturdy. New boards are unpainted and current paint is chipping. All shutters were attached except one, which was sitting below the window.

Comments: A small solar panel with a box, perhaps for the National Weather Service, is installed in a wide spot near the lookout.
Other enroachments? Burned timber near tower.

Comments? Very rough road going up to the lookout. Took motorcycles to the lookout. It would be a tough road for a truck. Lots of big rocks in the roadway.
