Description

Sitting on a ridge above timberline on the southern flank of Mt. Baker is Park Butte Lookout. The 14'x14' live-in L-4 with catwalk was constructed by the Forest Service in 1932 and was in service until 1961. Since then the Skagit Alpine Club has maintained it. When Mt. Baker threatened to erupt in the 1970s, the restored lookout served as an observatory for volcano monitors. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
