Description
Few -- if any -- mountaintop lookouts in the U.S. are reached by steam railroad, but Bald Knob Tower in West Virginia’s Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is one of them. The 47’ tower with l’ x 7’ metal cab was built in the early 1930s on land then owned by the Mower Lumber Co. and was staffed until 1977. It is now maintained as a park view point.
