Located on Cranberry Ridge east of Cowen, Red Oak Knob Fire Tower overlooks the Williams River and Cranberry River watersheds in Monongahela National Forest. The 80-foot steel tower was erected in 1964 to replace an earlier 30-foot wooden tower built by the CCC in 1934. The present tower features a 14'x14' CL100-series all metal cab with wrap-around catwalk.
As of 2017, Monongahela National Forest has plans to renovate the tower and offer overnight rentals of its observation cab.
