The original lookout on Warren Peak was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938 and Mert Ellsbury from Aladdin was the first lookout. He was a forestry graduate of Fort Collins, Colorado and worked at the Experiment Station. In 1959, the Sundance Air Force was built on the peak becoming the world's first nuclear powered radar station. The original wooden tower was demolished and the lookout site moved a half a mile to the east and a 54-foot steel tower erected in 1960. Maurice Classick worked the original lookout the longest. He was on the crew that tore down the old lookout and helped erect the new one. Warren Peak remains an active lookout and is staffed each fire season.
