Built in 1931, Girard Ridge Fire Lookout is a 14’ x 14’ L-4 cab with catwalk atop an enclosed tapered 13’ wooden tower, a 1917 design unique to the California region. It is the oldest structure of its type remaining in the state. No longer active for detection on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, it was restored to its original specifications in 1997 by the Forest Service and volunteers. With tremendous views of Castle Crags State Park and Mt. Shasta, it was placed on the lookout rental program in 1998.
