Description

This lookout was built in 1935 with materials hauled in over a hundred miles by pack mule over trails into the Payette National Forest. In 1936 a log cabin was constructed on site. The following year a young Norman Borlaug (winner of a Nobel Prize in 1974), staffed the 72’ Aermotor tower with 7’x7’ metal cab. The tower was removed in 1994 and the cabin burned by a wildfire in 2000. In 2007 a private party restored the top 20’ of the tower near the shore of Payette Lake.
