Description
The standard 1936-model hip-roof L-4 cab lookout with catwalk on a 10’ wooden tower at Gardiner Peak Lookout on the Nez Perce National Forest was built in 1953. It replaced an L-3 cupola cabin on a 5’ log crib constructed in 1925. Gardiner Peak sits above the Selway River within the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area on the boundary between the Nez Perce National Forest and the Bitterroot National Forest. Gardiner is regularly staffed for fire detection.
