Description

This 80' Aermotor tower model LS40 with steel frame and 7'x7' cab was built during 1935-1936 by the U.S. Forest Service and CCC Troop F-6. It is adjacent to the CCC-built Gum Springs Recreation Area, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in December 2011. The tower is not included in the NRHP boundary. Adjacent to the tower is the original firemen's dwelling, constructed in phases from 1935-1958. The dwelling is a wood-frame, pier and beam, three-bay, one-story, side-gabled cabin, and is the last remaining building of the CCC period on National Forest property within the state of Louisiana. The firemen's dwelling has been moved about 280' from its original location.
